Bryan King has urged Fraser Forster to step up at Tottenham while Guglielmo Vicario is sidelined.
The ex-Spurs scout hasn’t been impressed by the 36-year-old when he has played this season.
Vicario underwent surgery for a fracture of his right ankle on Monday [25 November]. When asked about a timeframe for his return, Postecoglou said [via Football London, 27 November], “It’s not going to be weeks. It’ll be months.
“He’s had his surgery and because it’s Vic and I don’t like giving timelines as it puts expectations on them. Once we’re in the rehab stage we’ll know more.”
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks those connected with Spurs will be concerned about Forster filing in for Vicario.
“He’s going to be out for some time as Postecoglou has said,” King said.
“However, nowadays medical treatment is far more advanced than when I played and they have every facility to get players back quickly.
“Nonetheless, Forster starting will be causing concern at Tottenham because he hasn’t exactly been pushing Vicario as the number two. This is going to put pressure on Postecoglou because he will be the starting goalkeeper now.
“Forster is an experienced goalkeeper. However, he hasn’t been at his best when he has been used this season. Therefore, now is the time for him to step up to the plate.”
Fraser Forster to step up in Guglielmo Vicario’s absence at Tottenham?
Vicario could be ruled out for more than two months.
That is a long time for any club to play with their number two as a starting goalkeeper. However, considering Forster’s displays this season, those two months could feel like eight for Postecoglou and Tottenham.
Spurs are already looking at a potential move for James Trafford in January [via talkSPORT, 26 November], and that could act as a solution if Vicario doesn’t return till February.
However, either way, it appears as though Forster will be the starting goalkeeper during the busy month of December, which means he will need to step up during a run of some very important games.
In other Tottenham news, a Ben Davies contract decision has been made in North London.
