Rangers and Celtic appear to have been offered the chance to sign Mexico international Andres Montana by his agent.

Rafael Guillen, agent for El Cielo Management, who represents the 22-year-old Mazaltan midfielder stated that his client can play for the two Old Firm sides.

His main goal is to get Montana to the Premier League and believes that the SPFL is an ideal stepping stone with £1million believed to be enough to sign him this summer.

Guillen said, as quoted by the Daily Record on 7 June: “We think that Andres could easily play without problems for Celtic, or for Rangers, because of our relationship with them, but they are not the only ones. Celtic and Rangers have a lot of quality. The English Premier League is the number one league in the world and we already have Edson Alvarez and Raul Jimenez as Mexicans there.

“But to get to that league, you have to move elsewhere in Europe first like Greece, Portugal or Scotland. And being able to play with Celtic or Rangers for a year makes it the perfect pathway to go to the Premier League.

“The Scottish League would be the best bridge for him it has a lower level that would allow Andres to play more often.

“It wouldn’t help him or us to take the player to a league where he plays intermittently – what we want is for him to play and in Scotland, Andres can play plenty.

“If we cannot find a club in Scotland, we would look at the Eredivisie in the Netherlands instead.”

Rangers must do their due diligence before signing Andres Montana

While the agent’s statements highlight the potential benefits of signing Montana, including his ability to play for Gers or Celtic and his desire to use the Scottish league as a stepping stone to the Premier League, it is crucial for the club to conduct their own thorough assessment of the player.

This assessment should include evaluating the 22-year-old’s skills, performance and suitability for Philippe Clement’s style of play and tactical requirements.

It should also involve considering his potential fit within the team dynamics and his ability to adapt to the Scottish league and they are understood to be expanding their search this summer.

While the agent’s statements provide a starting point, Rangers should not base their decision solely on these claims.

They should gather comprehensive information and conduct a thorough evaluation to ensure that Montana is the right fit for the club.

This approach will help them make an informed decision and minimise the risk of signing a player who may not meet the club’s expectations or fit into the team’s long-term plans.

In other Rangers news, a Premier League midfielder with “great quality” is now up for grabs this summer amid a recent development with a move to Ibrox on the cards.
