West Ham to sign multiple Spanish stars after Ferran Torres update - expert

West Ham United have been backed to hold a regular interest in players based in Spain, according to Frank McAvennie.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker McAvennie says new head coach Julen Lopetegui will have a major influence towards incomings and knows the La Liga market very well.

Despite Mundo Deportivo reporting [18 June] that alleged target Ferran Torres was not interested in a move to the London Stadium, Lopetegui and the club may dip back in to tempt the Barcelona forward back to the Premier League.

Football Insider exclusively reported on 2 June that a four-man shortlist had been drawn up in West Ham’s search for their new striker, with a variety of options including a La Liga striker, Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri, who worked with Lopetegui.

West Ham would see a coup for Torres as a statement of intent with the clubs on the Spanish international’s CV, and are in the global market for a number of signings to strengthen Lopetegui’s squad.

McAvennie believes the head coach’s knowledge of the Spanish market may give the club a pull factor ahead of next season.

“The [head coach] will know who’s who, and who has done what in the Spanish league,” he explained.

“I know it’s easy to just look players up now, but you’ll never see bad clips of people.

“There’s going to be a lot of Spanish players coming in, I think.

“That’s where he knows the players, and he’ll be speaking to plenty of them – whether they’re Spanish or not.

“Also, I didn’t want [Kurt] Zouma when he first came in, then he was doing okay. Then he became captain – and seemed a bit unfit to me. And I hope [Lopetegui] can get everyone up to speed now and everyone fit.”
