Wenham calls for 'Brilliant' Tottenham youth to feature in pre-season as loan claim emerges

John Wenham wants Will Lankshear to feature heavily for Tottenham during their pre-season tour of Japan and Korea.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is unsure whether the striker will be part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad next season or head out on loan.

Lankshear has been included in the travelling squad of Japan and Korea after featuring in pre-season friendlies against Hearts and QPR.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – wants the 19-year-old to be handed plenty of minutes in the coming weeks.

“When he has played so far during pre-season, I think he has been brilliant,” Wenham said.

“That finish against Hearts was what Lankshear is all about and I noticed against QPR Postecoglou was shouting for him to play a bit deeper.

“I would love nothing more than to see him feature very heavily on this pre-season tour. I’m still unsure of whether Lankshear will head out on loan or stick around the squad.

“Therefore he needs to play during this tour. That is what pre-season should be all about, seeing if these players can fit in among the first-team.”

Lankshear recently signed a five-year contract with Tottenham.

It is clear that the club is behind him and that he is committed to building his career in North London. However, what is not yet clear are Postecoglou’s immediate plans for him.

Tottenham need a reliable number nine but it remains to be seen if the Spurs boss believes Lankshear is ready for that role next season.

Therefore, playing him regularly during pre-season should be a priority so that an assessment can be made on whether or not the player is up to the challenge.
