John Wenham doesn’t understand where Giovani Lo Celso would fit in at Aston Villa.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has suggested there isn’t much room for the Argentinian in Unai Emery’s midfield.
As reported by TyC Sports via X (19 July), Spurs are close to agreeing to a deal with Villa which would see them pay £19million plus Lo Celso for Jacob Ramsey.
But Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t see how the move makes sense.
“This seems like a good opportunity to get rid of Lo Celso on paper,” Wenham said.
“He has worked with Unai Emery before. Therefore, I am surprised they weren’t pushing harder to sign him previously.
“However, now that Ross Barkley has joined the club, I am not sure where Lo Celso fits in at Villa Park.
“They have also signed Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus. It just doesn’t make sense to me.”
Tottenham and Aston Villa to agree player-plus-cash transfer?
Overall this move would likely be of great benefit to Tottenham.
It would see them sign a talented young player in Ramsey from Villa while offloading a player who clearly has no long-term future at the club.
However, it does seem as though Lo Celso would struggle to fit in at Villa.
That could therefore put the West Midlands club off pulling the trigger on a potential move.
However, as long as Emery’s side shows a willingness, Spurs should be doing what they can to get the deal across the line.
In other Tottenham news, shock has emerged as one player agrees terms to quit the club.
