Liverpool have finally completed a first summer signing and Arne Slot may yet have a significant signing at his disposal by the end of the week.
The Reds have been chasing a deal for goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili of late with an interesting idea in mind.
Liverpool wanted to sign Mamardashvili but send him back to Valencia on loan for a year before finally starting his Anfield career in 2025.
That deal has now been completed with the goalkeeper – hailed as ‘outstanding’ by Georgia coach David Webb – on board for the years to come.
Mamardashvili is seemingly viewed as the heir to Alisson between the sticks and the Brazilian has given his approval to the move.
That is a fine signing for the future but Liverpool fans want to see somebody arrive right now – and it may well happen this week.
Liverpool chasing Federico Chiesa
Liverpool now appear to be the most likely destination for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.
Chiesa has been banished by Juventus as they look to sell this summer – before he leaves for free at the end of his contract next summer.
Liverpool are now thought to be ‘confident’ of securing Chiesa with the winger ‘super keen’ on the idea of joining the Reds.
Sky Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio now claims that Chiesa’s agent Fali Ramadani met with Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli for dinner on Tuesday night.
Di Marzio claims that the reason was because ‘work is underway’ to move Chiesa from Turin to Merseyside.
‘Dinner in progress between Giuntoli and Fali Ramadani, agent of Chiesa. Work is underway to transfer the Italy international to Liverpool,’ said Di Marzio.
How much are Liverpool paying for Chiesa?
Liverpool seemingly view Chiesa as a great market opportunity.
The 26-year-old has been a frightening winger at his best but is inside the final year of his Juve contract and can be signed for a knockdown fee.
David Ornstein claims that Juventus want around €15million (£12.7million) for Chiesa as they attempt to cash in before he leaves for nothing.
That fee is very reasonable for Liverpool and the Reds are keen to hand Chiesa a four-year deal at Anfield.
Potentially viewed as the heir to Mohamed Salah, Chiesa has earned huge praise over the years and was even branded ‘special’ by former Tottenham Hotspur man Fabio Paratici whilst speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport in 2021.
A major knee injury in 2022 really set Chiesa back but Liverpool may believe that he can really get back to his best in the Premier League.
