John Wenham expects Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilón to both leave Tottenham before the transfer window shuts on Friday (30 August).
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims it is “depressing” thinking about the amount of money the North London club are set to lose on both players.
As reported by Sky Sports News’ Lyall Thomas via X (29 August), Real Betis are pushing to sign Lo Celso while Tottenham remain focused on moving on Reguilón.
Spurs signed Reguilón from Real Madrid in a deal worth £32million (via Sky Sports News, 19 September 2020). Meanwhile, the North London side paid £27.2million to make Lo Celso’s loan stay permanent (via BBC Sport, 28 January 2020).
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is hopeful that the club’s recruitment will continue to improve in the future.
“It is vital that Reguilón and Lo Celso both leave Spurs,” Wenham said.
“They’re not going to play a second of football for the club this season. Therefore, even if it means writing their contracts off or losing them for free, they must go, and I imagine they will.
“However, it is quite depressing to consider that in this window alone we could lose more than £100million worth of signings for next to nothing when you also include Tanguy Ndombele.
“And people say the club don’t spend. They do, they have just spent badly. Hopefully, those days are in the past considering how good our recent recruitment has been.”
Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilón to leave Tottenham?
While supporters will be hoping for some last-minute exciting signings in North London, the club’s priority needs to be getting rid of Lo Celso and Reguilón.
Both players are earning big wages with neither in Ange Postecoglou’s plans. Therefore, they must be moved on.
With just a year left on both of their contracts, Tottenham cannot afford to let them leave for free next summer after another year spent paying their lucrative contracts.
Spurs recently bit the bullet by terminating Ndombele’s contract, a player who was brought to the club as part of a £63million deal (via Sky Sports News, 2 July 2019).
As a result, all eyes will be on the outgoing business at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
In other Tottenham news, the club have been backed to sign a Bayern Munich player as Dharmesh Sheth drops a transfer update.
