Tottenham are one of several Premier League clubs monitoring Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill who could be available for a cut-price £5million deal, according to GiveMeSport.
GiveMeSport reported on 29 August that the Clarets captain could be available at a discount price as the transfer window nears its final hours, with Spurs, Fulham and Everton all keen on signing the midfielder.
Brownhill, 28, is reportedly being offered to the interested Premier League clubs as Burnley look to balance the books following their relegation last season, which was sealed in a 2-1 loss to Spurs in May.
Do Tottenham need to pursue Josh Brownhill transfer?
Given Ange Posteocglou has spent well over £100m so far this summer on the likes of Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, adding Brownhill to the squad for a mere £5m may looks small change.
Spurs certainly have more cash in the bank than the likes of Everton, and a more complete squad at that, but adding Brownhill as a potential squad player for bargain price would still represent smart business.
An out-an-out central midfielder who can also play a more defensive-minded role, Brownhill would likely start life as a Lilywhite positioned fifth in the pecking order at best.
However, having gone through successive relegation, promotion, and relegation campaigns once again, the prospect of playing European football for the first time could be an enticing prospect for Brownhill.
It remains to be seen if Brownhill chooses Spurs over the more conventional Premier League options of Everton or Fulham, but with the Lilywhites having recently done business with Burnley to sign Wilson Odobert, they may be keen to re-enter negotiations for another key Clarets player.
