Wenham reacts to 'Strange' Tottenham news as highly-rated youngster leaves club

John Wenham was surprised to see Han Willhoft-King walk away from Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has detailed how the 18-year-old was once a highly-rated prospect in North London.

Willhoft-King was one of several players who Tottenham confirmed (4 June) would be leaving the club in June upon the expiration of their contract.

He was once featured as a Premier League academy player to watch by The Guardian (27 September 2022), a list which also featured the likes of Archie Gray and Lewis Miley.

As a result, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – was surprised to see Willhoft-King go.

“It was only a couple of years ago that the Guardian featured Willhoft-King as one to watch from Spurs’ academy,” Wenham said.

“They have a pretty good hit rate with that. Players such as Dane Scarlett, Mikey Moore and Troy Parrott have all been featured on it in the past.

“Therefore, to see him leave the club for free just a few years later is slightly strange.”

Will Tottenham regret losing Han Willhoft-King?

As exclusively revealed by Tottenham News (14 June), Willhoft-King rejected a contract offer from Spurs.

This therefore demonstrates that the club were keen to keep hold of him, although the midfielder obviously wanted to move on.

This perhaps suggests that he was unhappy with the lack of opportunities available to him at Hotspur Way.

And Tottenham will hope they don’t regret letting Willhoft-King slip through their fingers.

Should he go on to achieve big things, supporters might therefore feel frustrated that the club couldn’t keep hold of the talented youngster.
