Wenham speculates Tottenham outcast set for second chance amid behind-the-scenes verdict

John Wenham believes Djed Spence is set for a fresh opportunity under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels as though pre-season will offer the defender a chance to reestablish himself in North London.

Spence has featured in both of Spurs’ pre-season matches against Hearts and QPR thus far. In addition, he has been included in the club’s travelling squad for their pre-season tour of Japan and Korea.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is excited to see what the 23-year-old can offer.

“From everything we have seen, it looks as if Spence is set for a second chance at Tottenham,” Wenham said.

“He will be keen to use this pre-season tour as an opportunity to re-establish himself in the squad.

“It doesn’t seem as if Spurs are desperate to get rid of him anymore. If everything goes well behind the scenes, which I think is really important for Spence, I think he will be reintegrated into the team.

“He has impressed me so far in pre-season. He seems confident and hopefully, we see plenty more of him over the next few weeks.”

This will likely come as a surprise to most supporters.

Spence looked to be on his way out of the club and it didn’t appear as if there was much of a future for him under Postecoglou.

However, so far, he appears to have turned things around. Since arriving at the club he has hardly been offered an opportunity, and the right-back must therefore ensure he grabs this chance with both hands.

Attitude problems and behind-the-scenes issues seem to have been what has held him back. As a result, Spence must ensure he proves to Postecoglou that he is ready to put that all behind him.
