West Ham backed to complete Jhon Duran signing - expert

West Ham have been backed to complete the signing of Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran in the summer transfer window.

Reports claimed the Hammers are interested in signing the Colombian this summer and could make contact with Villa in the coming days.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers striker Frank McAvennie insisted his lack of game time at Villa wouldn’t be an issue given his record in front of goal.

Duran has shown an eye for goal which saw him pick up Villa’s goal of the season award last time out for a volley against Crystal Palace.

Julen Lopetegui is said to be a fan of the striker and McAvennie has insisted the boss should be backed to take the club in a new direction.

West Ham backed to complete signing of Jhon Duran from Aston Villa

Duran scored eight goals in 49 games for Villa, although 39 of those appearances came from the bench with little time to make any real impact.

This was largely due to the form of Ollie Watkins, which McAvennie insists is no worry for Duran, backing the Hammers to get a deal over the line.

“There’s no shame in being kept out of the team by Ollie Watkins,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s a decent player and when he’s played he’s scored goals. He’ll continue to score goals wherever he’s playing. He’s a goalscorer.

“It doesn’t matter that he’s not been starting, I haven’t got a problem with that.

“If he could get more game time at West Ham, I’d be delighted with it.

“Antonio gets injured too often, they put Bowen up front but he wants to play on the right, it’ll be interesting to see what the new manager wants to do.
