West Ham’s decision on Julen Lopetegui is good news for long-suffering Hammers fans

It’s not been the greatest start to life at West Ham for Julen Lopetegui, and so the club’s decision on the Spaniard should please their long-suffering fans.

Indeed, things started off incredibly poorly for the new manager and he set an unwanted record after losing his first three home games.

There has even been suggestions that his tenure “won’t end well” because of the impatience of the Hammers faithful.

Julen Lopetegui has until Christmas to change West Ham’s fortunes

At present, the Hammers find themselves way down in 15th after their devastating 4-1 loss at Tottenham, and it’s clear that supporters are unhappy with the way things have gone in 2024/25.

Particularly when one considers not just who technical director, Tim Steidten, brought in, but the quality of those players, none of whom appear to have been anywhere close to top form thus far.

Although The Guardian (subscription required) suggest that Lopetegui will be given time to turn things around, Hammers fans can be happy in the knowledge that if nothing changes, the Spaniard will likely be gone by Christmas.

It was always likely to take time to integrate so many new players into a brand new system, but West Ham are so disjointed at the moment it’s embarrassing.

They’ve only managed two wins from their eight Premier League games so far, but those six points coupled with two more from draws against Brentford and Fulham, has been enough to keep them out of the bottom three.

Fortunately for the Hammers, as last season, there are some really poor teams in the division, and unless they have a monumental collapse, relegation is by no means a certainty even if West Ham have a below par campaign.

For now, Lopetegui has been given a stay of execution, and either way things will be looking up for the supporters and the club eight weeks from now.
