'What are you doing?' - Mark Guidi baffled by what Clement said about exit-linked Rangers man

Mark Guidi has been left baffled by Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s recent comments surrounding Ianis Hagi’s future at Ibrox.

The Romania international has been training with the Gers’ B Team so far this season with Clement admitting that his situation hadn’t changed after the transfer window closed in Scotland [Rangers Review, 31 August].

While interest still remains in the attacking midfielder’s signature, he has shown little desire to leave Ibrox and the Sunday Mail’s Guidi has been left confused by Clement’s willingness to discuss Hagi’s situation openly.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (5 September, 17:00) he said: “What does he say on the eve of the game against Celtic?

“Ianis Hagi, no chance, will not feature again. What are you doing? You’re weakening your bargaining position again and you’re lumped with the £20,000-a-week wages that you’re trying to get rid of.

“Wee things like that you’re saying what’s going on? Is he being told internally? Is he defying the internal message? Who knows.”

As Guidi suggests, Clement’s public desire to be rid of Hagi has only harmed the Gers’ negotiating position this summer and if he is to now leave, it will almost certainly be for a cut-price fee.

Supporters would have expected the Rangers boss to have learned from his mistakes with Todd Cantwell earlier this summer after the Light Blues were forced to accept just £500,000 for his signature on deadline day [Alan Nixon, 28 August].

Whether or not Clement believes Hagi is good enough to play for the Gers at this moment in time is his decision, but there is absolutely no need for the Light Blues to discuss the Romanian’s position so publically.

Hopefully, Hagi’s situation in Glasgow will be sorted out sooner rather than later. The fact that this entire saga has played out so publically is not helping the club, Clement and the attacking midfielder whatsoever.
