'What I'm told': £60m player wants to join Newcastle; Liverpool or Spurs may yet get involved - journalist

Newcastle could find themselves involved in a big transfer tussle for one of their top targets, journalist Alex Crook has suggested.

The Magpies are looking to push the go button on a number of deals now as they strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.

Will Osula is being looked at from Sheffield United, while Ebere Eze is also admired by Newcastle as well.

However, it is in defence where Newcastle have had the most concrete link to a player so far.

That link comes in the form of Marc Guehi, where it’s been claimed talks have started over a big-money deal.

However, with Guehi in-demand across England, Newcastle might find themselves involved in a big bidding war to land the England man.

Bidding war could start for Marc Guehi after Newcastle interest

Speaking on TalkSPORT about the interest from Newcastle in Guehi, Crook has suggested other top Premier League side may now bid for the defender.

“I think Palace were always brace for interest in Guehi, even before he had such a good tournament in Germany with England,” Crook said.

“Newcastle at the moment the most serious suitors, they’re the ones who have opened talks. It’s going to take big money, you’re talking well north of £60m. From what I’m told Guehi is open to the move to St James’ Park.

“But I wonder if now this story is out in the media I do wonder if bigger clubs come to the party and Palace find themselves involved in some sort of bidding war.”

Who else is keen on Marc Guehi?

Guehi has been a name mentioned for a while now when it comes to a number of clubs but as stated, it is Newcastle who seem more advanced.

However, there are others, and other big names as well.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Guehi before they signed Riccardo Calafiori, while it’s common knowledge that Liverpool are big admirers of the defender as well.

Tottenham have also been heavily linked with a move for Guehi, albeit he could be a touch out of their price range.

Newcastle, then, know they will be pulling off quite the coup if they do manage to get a deal done for Guehi.
