'Woeful' - BBC pundit destroys Rangers player after what he did at HT v Ross County

Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson slammed Jack Butland for a “woeful” moment against Ross County.

The veteran goalkeeper stumbled on the ball in the 17th minute of Sunday’s (8 December) contest and Ronan Hale almost snatched the ball before the clearance fell to Alex Samuel, who won a corner.

It was a tense moment for the Gers, who could reduce the gap to second-placed Aberdeen to two points with a victory.

Philippe Clement’s side led 1-0 when the incident occurred, which they went on to make 2-0, and Ferguson was critical of the goalkeeper for messing about with ball in such a dangerous area

He said on BBC Sportscene [8 December, 12:17pm: “His touch is woeful there.

“It’s not the strongest part of his game, Jack Butland, so if it isn’t your strongest part and the pitch isn’t the greatest, just clear it first time.

“I don’t think he’s good enough or clever enough to take a touch in those areas.”

Jack Butland should avoid adding to Rangers woes

The English goalkeeper has been an ever-present between the sticks for the Gers this season.

He has made 15 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, keeping nine clean sheets and conceding nine goals as it stands.

The former Stoke City stopper has a history of making mistakes when trying to play about with the ball at the back – it nearly backfired against FCSB in the Europa League earlier this season but his blushes were spared when the goal was disallowed.

The last thing that Clement needs is his goalkeeper gifting the opposition a goal, especially with the amount of pressure that the Belgian is under at the moment.

Despite positive results against Nice in Europe and St Johnstone and Kilmarnock domestically, it has been reported that Clement could be sacked if the Gers lose to Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup final next week [6 December, Andrew Newport].

In other Rangers news, a twist has emerged in the Connor Barron compensation case with Aberdeen.
