Bryan King doesn’t understand why Tottenham would want to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap in January.
The ex-Spurs scout also doesn’t think it would make any sense for the Tractor Boys to allow Delap to leave midway through the season.
According to CaughtOffside (22 October), Spurs are interested in a potential January move for Delap, with Ipswich Town set to demand more than £30million.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – couldn’t see any more happening until the summer of 2025.
“They’ve just signed a striker from Bournemouth for £60million-plus,” King said.
“You’ve got Richarlison and Solanke. You wouldn’t be looking to bring in another striker until at least next summer unless someone left Spurs in January.
“However, then it depends on if Ipswich Town are willing to sell him. I think they’re going to have problems in the Premier League.
“Therefore, the one guy scoring your goals, why would you want to sell him? That would be bad business, in a season where they’re trying to survive.”
Tottenham to try and sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap?
Delap has made an impressive start to life in the Premier League, with the 21-year-old having already scored four times for Ipswich Town
However, that doesn’t mean Spurs need to sign him in January. With Dominic Solanke having only recently arrived as the club’s record-signing, and Richarlison still on the books, signing another striker would be unwise.
The club also have Will Lankshear breaking through as well as Alejo Véliz and Dane Scarlett, who are both out on loan. Therefore, Postecoglou should remain focused on these players.
The Australian has enough striking options as it is, and £30million could be better used if it was put toward a signing in a different position.
In other Tottenham news, the club want to sign a Real Madrid player as a behind-the-scenes update emerges.
