'A lot of bluster' - Pundit slams ex-Everton player ahead of Aston Villa showdown

Michael Ball has slammed former Everton player Amadou Onana as he prepares to face his former employers for the first time since moving to Aston Villa.

The Belgian left Goodison Park this summer in an eye-watering £50m move to Villa Park [Sacha Tavolieri] with his sale helping the Blues get on the right side of the Profit and Sustainability rules.

Onana has settled into life in Birmingham with ease, scoring two goals in his first three Premier League matches for Aston Villa and Ball, writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo [10 September] has offered his insight on why it didn’t work out for the midfielder on Merseyside.

He said: “Onana came with a lot of bluster about where he wanted to be in his football career but didn’t hit the heights expected of him, maybe through a combination of how we played, and his style didn’t suit the system too much.

“Fighting near the bottom of the table probably didn’t get the best out of him.”

Everton need to get a result against Aston Villa

There is no love lost between the Everton supporters and Onana following his departure this summer, however, a trip to Villa Park to face his high-flying Aston Villa side is arguably the last thing Sean Dyche needs right now.

While Onana is in a rich vein of form for the Villains, his sale helped balance the books for the Toffees [Stefan Borson] and he will always be remembered by the Everton faithful for his infamous penalty miss against Fulham which cost his side a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

However, if there was ever a storyline to sum up the misfortunes of Everton, it would be an Onana winning goal at Villa Park on Saturday [14 September] and Dyche must do everything in his power to ensure his side leaves Birmingham with three points.

A share of the spoils would be a much more realistic target for the Blues but Dyche, cannot afford to drop any more points with his future at Goodison Park under intense scrutiny with the club considering alternatives [Graeme Bailey] after three consecutive Premier League defeats.

The Blues boss has had much-needed time off from Premier League football over the international break to address the problems in the side. Hopefully, he used his time well as Everton will need to be on their A-game to topple the challenge of Champions League opposition.

In other Everton news, Idrissa Gueye has been hailed as ‘essential’ for Senegal despite a 5/10 rating for the Blues ace.
