Ally McCoist has suggested that Leicester City will have spent “thousands” on lawyers to find a PSR loophole amid comparisons with Everton.

Steve Cooper’s side appear to have avoided punishment after the Premier League (3 September) confirmed that an independent Appeal Board had upheld their appeal against an alleged PSR breach.

Although it is not clear how similar the Foxes’ alleged infringement was to the Toffees’, but talkSPORT pundit McCoist has slammed the decision, suggesting all the clubs involved should be treated the same way.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday (4 September, 8:11) he said: “There’s obviously similarities, but it might not be the exact same, I use the word crime but crime is not the right word but they’ve obviously broken the laws.

“It might differ ever so slightly, but the fact of the matter is, if it’s similar to the exact same law that they’ve broken, then they should be treated the exact same way as previous clubs. It’s as simple as that.

“The fact they’ve found a loophole is brilliant and good luck to them and that’s why they spend thousands and thousands of pounds on top lawyers, that’s their job and they’ve done that exceptionally well.

“But if you’re telling me is it fair for one team to break a law, as I say I’m not 100 per cent sure if it’s the exact same but I’m guessing it’s along those lines, they’ve got to be treated the same.

“They have to be treated the same.”

Why did Everton get a point deduction but Leicester City didn’t?

As McCoist suggests, Leicester deserve credit for finding a loophole to dodge a point deduction, but such an exploit shows that there is an issue in the Premier League’s current financial fair play system.

There shouldn’t be a different punishment handed out to each and every club for every single PSR breach and there certainly shouldn’t be ways for some clubs to dodge punishment that other teams cannot exploit.

The whole system needs a complete rework from top to bottom and until that happens, the Premier League is not going to be a level playing field.

Hopefully, the latest developments at Leicester City will finally see some sort of change occur to find a more balanced and fair system.

It would be a massive shame if yet another season was determined by matters off of the field rather than what happens on it.
