Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks certain to leave Everton upon the expiry of his contract after reports emerged several senior stars will walk away from the club if Sean Dyche continues as manager.

The Esk reported via his blog [3 November] that the Blues’ best talents will want to ply their trade away from Merseyside next season should Dyche lead the side to the new era at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Calvert-Lewin will become a free agent at the end of the campaign and, despite his admission he wishes to “etch” his name in Everton’s history, neither party has moved any closer to a contract extension.

While conflicting reports have emerged on the ongoing saga, Blues supporters could now finally have clarity on the situation as the stance on Dyche could all but confirm Calvert-Lewin’s future.

Everton look set to lose Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Goodison News reported in October that Everton were firmly in talks with Calvert-Lewin regarding a contract extension, but there is yet to be a breakthrough in negotiations and the forward’s departure from the club at this stage feels “inevitable”.

The 0-0 draw against West Ham United before the international break marked seven matches without a goal for the 27-year-old, as his struggles this year are cited as a major factor in the side being pulled back into another relegation battle.

Therefore, a departure may be in the best interests of all parties. Everton are in desperate need of a centre-forward who can score 10-plus league goals, a feat Calvert-Lewin has achieved only twice in nine years on Merseyside and has not done so since the 2020/21 campaign.

However, the forward will have plenty of options for a fresh start despite his barren Premier League form with Newcastle United back in the frame for his signature [TEAMtalk] after a move to the North-East collapsed in the final stages last summer.

Dyche will be doing himself no favours with Dan Friedkin if the Blues boss is deemed the reason Calvert-Lewin wishes to seek pastures new – the prospective owner has already shown his ruthless approach at AS Roma this year and will have no qualms about relieving the manager of his duties if it best serves the club.

Regardless, Calvert-Lewin should be thanked for his service and sent on his way at the end of the season. While the circumstances of his expected departure could be attributed to Dyche, he has hardly shown the form worthy of a new deal at Everton.

In other Everton news, David Moyes’ return to the Toffees is on the cards after the latest Friedkin Group development.
