Andy Halliday has admitted he believes Lennon Miller would start for Rangers “every week” if he were to make the move to Ibrox.

The 18-year-old midfielder has impressed at Motherwell again this season having been linked with a move to Philippe Clement’s side during the summer transfer window [Football Scotland, 10 July].

Although the Light Blues didn’t move to sign the teenager this summer, Clyde 1 pundit Halliday has been left baffled as to why Clement’s side isn’t ready to pay £4million for his services.

Speaking on The Open Goal YouTube channel (24 September, 16:40) he said: “Lennon for me is by far and away the best young player in Scotland.

“I think if Lennon Miller with the same ability that he’s shown at Motherwell, I don’t think he plays [for Rangers or Celtic]. Why should it need them to go and do well somewhere else before Celtic or Rangers are willing to pay £4million for him?”

Si Ferry asked: “Do you think Lennon Miller plays every week for Rangers now?”

Halliday replied: “Every week, for me personally aye. It doesn’t matter who it is, he’s playing.”

Will Lennon Miller exit Motherwell after Rangers transfer rumours?

As Halliday suggests, it is irritating that the Gers often wait until they won’t be able to afford a young Scottish talent to try and secure their services and there is a risk that they could well do the same when it comes to Miller.

The teenager has shown in his short career so far that he has the talent to play at the highest level and if the Light Blues don’t act quickly, he will skip a move to an Old Firm side and likely head straight to the Premier League or Europe.

In the past, the Gers have missed out on players like Lewis Ferguson for the exact same reasons. Why should players need to prove themselves away from Scotland before the Old Firm sides become interested in their services?

Hopefully, the signing of Connor Barron will show that Clement’s side is moving away from that model as there are plenty of excellent players already plying their trade in Scotland that simply cannot be ignored.

In other Rangers news, Clement has been lauded for a recent James Tavernier decision at Ibrox this season
