Youssef Chermiti is yet to make a single Everton appearance this season and there is no sign of “anything imminent” in terms of a return, reports Alan Myers.
The Sky Sports pundit responded to an inquiry on the young striker getting back involved with the Toffees via X on 19 October, but didn’t have a positive update.
Chermiti, 20, underwent foot surgery before the start of the season no timeframe for a return was given [The Athletic, 5 August], but it doesn’t appear he is close to coming back nearly three months later.
Myers wrote: “Not aware of anything imminent”.
Sean Dyche without Everton striker long-term
Chermiti’s situation is particularly frustrating when the Portuguese youngster had a positive preseason and looked primed for a breakout for the Toffees [BBC Sport, 28 July].
He made 20 first-team appearances under Sean Dyche last season but didn’t find the net as just two were starts and the vast majority were late introductions in the dying minutes.
A long-term absence, at a key point in his development, is obviously far from ideal and the hope will be that it hasn’t set back the process to far when he eventually does return.
Armando Broja’s loan move from Chelsea may have pushed him further down the pecking order when that time comes, although the Albanian is himself yet to feature this term while his parent club cover the whole cost until he does [Liverpool Echo, 31 August].
Beto’s status looks uncertain as the senior striker who arrived two summers ago alongside his compatriot has seen so little action despite being available – seven games with two starts.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has hoovered up all the minutes as Dyche has rotated very little during a difficult start to the season.
Both the senior options are targets for Juventus in the January window, and the Toffees could let the Portuguese go if Broja return goes to plan [Graeme Bailey, 16 October], while Calvert-Lewin is now in talks over a contract extension [TEAMtalk, 13 October] and showed again in the 2-0 win at Ipswich on 19 October why the club wants him to stay.
In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin could move fast to replace Dyche with a former Champions League boss after recent talks emerged.
