Arnaut Danjuma has sent wordless message to Pedro Porro in wake of Tottenham's draw at Leicester

Tottenham Hotspur fans had to wait a little longer than most other Premier League supporters for their campaign to get under way.

Spurs were given the Monday night slot to contest their league opener as they took on newly-promoted Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Tottenham began brightly, dominating the Foxes on their own patch and breaking the the deadlock in the 29th minute of the match.

James Maddison curled in a cross for Pedro Porro to ghost through and head home a deserved opener for the Lilywhites.

It was one-way traffic for most of the first half, but Tottenham couldn’t capitalise on their dominance, and Leicester made them pay.

Not long before the hour mark, Abdul Fatawu floated the ball to Spurs’ back post, where the unmarked Jamie Vardy was on hand to nod home with ease.

It was a disappointing result for Tottenham, who could’ve easily won by three or four on another day.

Some Spurs players took to Instagram with bittersweet messages for the fanbase, and one got a response from former N17 loanee Arnaut Danjuma.

Arnaut Danjuma impressed by Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro

Porro took to Instagram to say he was “happy to be back for a new campaign” and, while it was “not quite the start we wanted”, “we will keep on building”.

Danjuma was among those who replied in the comments, as he posted a fire emoji.

What ratings did Porro get for his display against Leicester?

Football.london gave Porro a 7 out of 10 rating for his efforts against Leicester.

“Put in a couple of dangerous early crosses and took up a great position to head home Maddison’s cross on the half-hour mark,” wrote Alasdair Gold.

“Didn’t read the danger posed by Vardy for the equaliser. Picked up a late knock.”

The Evening Standard also gave Porro a 7 out of 10.

“Took his goal superbly, darting into the box and guiding James Maddison’s cross into the far corner,” wrote Dan Kilpatrick.

“But he was among the defenders to fail to defend the far post for the Leicester leveller and allowed Vardy to escape behind him for another chance soon after.”

Likewise, 90Min also gave the Tottenham defender a 7 out of 10 score.

“Showed Spurs have many different threats by getting on the end of Maddison’s cross to head in,” they wrote.

“Showed his danger in the final third but was often found wanting one-v-one.”
