Aston Villa want to beat Everton to another attacker transfer - report

Aston Villa and Everton are both interested in signing Napoli winger Jesper Lindstrom this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Writing on their website (15 July), the news outlet report that the Italian club are open to the sale of the Denmark international and have interest from the two Premier League clubs.

The player is more open to a move as he has seen his first-team minutes decrease, and he may not be in the plans of new manager Antonio Conte, who will decide on his future after watching him in pre-season.

It seems that Everton are shopping in the right markets this summer, because Aston Villa won’t leave them or their targets alone.

Unai Emery’s side are about to complete a £50m deal to sign Amadou Onana from the Toffees [Fabrizio Romano, 13 July], while they are also on the verge of signing Jaden Philogene [John Percy, 10 July] ahead of Sean Dyche’s side despite Everton agreeing a deal with Hull beforehand.

The whole reason the club are even looking at Lindstrom is because they missed out on a deal for Philogene, but Villa are desperate to strengthen ahead of playing Champions League football for the first time.

If given the opportunity you would expect a player to choose a team playing in Europe’s elite competition rather than the bottom half of the table, and it would be another blow in the market.

But until offers are made and interest is made more concrete, everyone has a chance, and Everton must move quickly if they want to have the best chance of getting a deal done.
