Wenham predicts Tottenham to recall loanee in January as fresh concern is shared

John Wenham claims Tottenham might consider recalling Jamie Donley from his loan with Leyton Orient in January.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has suggested that some supporters are concerned that EFL League One football is “too easy” for the 19-year-old.

It was confirmed via the club’s official website earlier this month (16 August) that Donley had signed a brand-new five-year contract with Tottenham ahead of joining Leyton Orient on a season-long loan.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels that this was the right move for the Spurs youngster.

“I am delighted for Donley,” Wenham said.

“I think this is a brilliant loan move for him and I imagine he will play a lot of football with Leyton Orient this season.

“I’m sure Tottenham will reevaluate the loan in January and could recall him and send him elsewhere if League One is too easy for him.

“That was a genuine concern that I know some supporters had. However, in my opinion, at this age, for his first-ever loan, it was just about getting out and playing first-team football.”

Tottenham to recall Jamie Donley from Leyton Orient loan in January?

It wouldn’t be unusual for Spurs to recall Donley and send him elsewhere in January. The club did a similar thing with youngster Alfie Devine last season.

Devine was playing his football with Port Vale in League One before he was recalled and sent on loan to the Championship with Plymouth Argyle.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise if something similar were to happen to Donley. However, that will all depend on how the forward progresses.

He has started both of Leyton Orient’s league fixtures thus far this season, suggesting he is set for a prominent first-team role with the club. As a result, Ange Postecoglou will no doubt be keeping an eye on Donley.

And if the Spurs loanee impresses over the coming months, he could be set for a change of scenery in January.

In other Tottenham news, Wenham expects one player to make a “phenomenal” transfer away from the club before Friday 30 August.
