‘At the moment’: Alasdair Gold shares update on Tottenham’s late move to sign Archie Gray from Leeds

Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has now shared his insight into the club’s move to sign Leeds United youngster Archie Gray.

In the last 24 hours, Gray had travelled to Spurs’ London rivals Brentford to complete a medical, however, that deal has since collapsed.

Brentford’s £40m bid fell down because of a disagreement of how the payment would be structured.

Holding long-term interest in Gray themselves, Tottenham have since made their move and are attempting to complete a deal for the 18-year-old.

Journalist David Ornstein first shared the news, saying that all sides are optimistic that a transfer can be concluded, also adding that Gray would like to join Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou would seem perfectly placed to continue Gray’s development, who played a lot of last season at right-back for Leeds.

Johan Lange is said to have been tasked to find his manager a new defensive midfielder, who may have in fact found cover for Pedro Porro as a bonus.

Alasdair Gold says negotiations for Tottenham to sign Archie Gray are still ‘very early’

Given their PSR concerns, Leeds United need to raise funds before Sunday’s deadline in order to avoid a potential point deduction next season.

Daniel Farke’s side will be desperate to return to the Premier League next year, explaining why a PSR sanction is a no-go for the club on multiple levels.

And with that in mind, journalist Alasdair Gold has now been sharing his own interpretation of Ornstein’s news on X.

Confirming Ornstein’s report, Gold said Tottenham were trying to execute a deal for Gray, but mentioned that the move was still in ‘very early stages’.

He shared: “As per David Ornstein, Spurs [are] trying to get a deal done for Archie Gray after Brentford couldn’t agree a deal with Leeds.

“A top talent. Would be a cracking deal if Tottenham can get it done. Very early stages at the moment.”

Of course, this will be one for Spurs fans to keep their eyes on either side of England’s tie with Slovakia at Euro 2024 on Sunday.

And Postecoglou could potentially be set to welcome a player who could go on to star for England in the future, even if there is still a lot of work to do for now.
