AZ Alkmaar consider summer move for exit-linked Rangers man - report

AZ Alkmaar are considering Rangers forward Sam Lammers as a potential replacement for Vangelis Pavlidis, according to Transferwatch.nl.

The Dutch outlet reported on its website on Monday (1 July) that the Eredivisie side has already held conversations with a number of strikers including the Gers forward following Pavlidis’ move to Benfica.

Lammers is not AZ’s only candidate but could be an option for this summer as a permanent move to FC Utrecht appears to be complicated because of the Light Blues’ valuation of the 27-year-old and his wage demands.

Rangers simply have to sell Lammers this summer. He may have impressed during his loan spell with Utrecht, but he has shown in his brief time in Glasgow that he doesn’t have what it takes to cut for an Old Firm side.

Having arrived in Scotland with so much expectation last summer, he never hit the heights required or expected of him. While some will always insist he deserves another chance, it would be naive of Philippe Clement to assume next year would be any different.

The Gers are well within their rights to set their asking price reasonably high for the 27-year-old as his value has certainly increased following his loan spell, but they cannot afford to price him out of a move and end up stuck with him.

Hopefully, AZ will use some of the money raised via the sale of Pavlidis to act on their interest in the Dutchman and get this deal over the line.

They should be more financially equipped to complete the transfer than Utrecht at least.

If terms can be agreed quickly between all parties, this could be a deal that advances very quickly this summer as the Light Blues have made it clear they don’t want Lammers at Ibrox by the end of the window.
