'Ban them' - Simon Jordan calls for action after what Rangers fans did before clash v Motherwell

Simon Jordan has called for action to be taken after pyrotechnics were set off before Rangers’ League Cup semi-final clash against Motherwell on Sunday.

With both sets of fans being blamed for the incident at Hampden Park on 3 November, referee Nick Walsh decided to halt the start of the game due to poor visibility [The Herald].

Football fans are very aware of the implications of bringing banned objects into stadiums, and with a new law about pyrotechnics in Scotland, Jordan is in no mood for those guilty to get away with breaking the rules.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (4 November, 11:45am), Jordan said: “The clubs should, and I personally would, take it as a personal front.

“In the stadiums that I have jurisdiction over, I would increase stewarding and policing levels, take these idiots out and ban them, then make sure people’s employers knew who was being banned to illustrate how serious I am. From my understanding, it’s a criminal offence in Scotland, isn’t it?”

Rangers fans at risk of ban after Scottish League Cup pyrotechnics?

Football fans are well aware of the serious implications of bringing pyrotechnics into stadiums, especially on this occasion when kick-off is delayed.

Of course, punishing all fans would be extremely unfair because only a selection chooses to break the rules, but with the game held at a neutral venue, it becomes harder to work out who is guilty.

Fans are desperate to show their love and commitment to their club, especially when a spot in the Scottish League Cup is at stake, but they seem to have taken it too far this time.

It is difficult to argue against the idea that supporters should be banned, and with Jordan’s involvement with Crystal Palace in the Premier League, he is clearly taking this situation to heart.

If Rangers fans are to be banned due to the incident, then action must be taken across the board, with Motherwell, Celtic and Aberdeen all seemingly guilty of the same crime this weekend.
