Dan Bardell believes Rangers are good value to sign Tommy Conway from Bristol City this summer, with the forward available on a cheap deal.

The Daily Record has reported (11 June) that the Gers are set to go head to head with Celtic for the forward’s signature.

The 21-year-old is in the final 12 months of his contract with the English Championship side and could be available for as little as £300,000 in January on a pre-contract.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that this would be a positive piece of business for Philippe Clement’s side.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “That would be a smart pickup. I think Rangers can get good players in on free transfers.

He’s someone who was called up for the Scotland squad and is going to get experience from potentially playing in the Euros.

Unfortunately, I think that’s where Rangers are at – smart pick-ups who come on a free are going to be paramount.

Conway is available for a small fee and would be one who would file under smart transfers. It’s something that I could envisage happening this summer.

Tommy Conway could join Rangers from Bristol City

The Gers are in a financial situation where they will have to be clever in the transfer window with the additions they make.

With a large number of outgoings in terms of loans and players coming to the end of their contracts, a squad rebuild is necessary.

Conway could prove to be a perfect replacement option for Kemar Roofe, who has already departed Ibrox after the season ended.

Despite being just 21 years old, Conway has featured heavily for Bristol City since his loan move to Bath City three seasons ago.

In the Championship this past campaign, he impressed with his goalscoring exploits as he scored 10 goals and registered one assist – a positive return given he only started 27 games.

He is now part of Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for the Euros, which may end up in an inflated value this summer should he play and perform well.

If Rangers can hold out, he could be a great addition for next season depending on if a positive fee can be agreed.
