Rangers are unlikely to confirm the signing of Abdallah Sima in the near future as Brighton weigh up their transfer options, according to Joshua Barrie.

Reports emerged that the Seagulls are expected to test the market this summer if they decide to sell the forward as they look to maximise his value before selling to the highest bidder [Rangers Review, 6 June].

Although the Light Blues were previously able to quickly accelerate talks to bring Oscar Cortes back to Glasgow from Lens, Rangers Review journalist Barrie doesn’t expect a deal to be reached early in the window.

Speaking on The Rangers Review YouTube channel (7 June, 9:00) he said: “If Rangers could keep Sima they would, but how much will they pay for him and how much will Brighton want for him?

“Is it one that is going to dwindle on towards the end of the window because we believe Brighton would like to test the market if they are going to sell Sima?

“One to keep an eye on though Derek, I don’t expect a decision to be made in the short term, and I don’t expect the arrival to happen in the short term. It could because the back end of that Oscar Cortes deal seemed to happen very quickly once it was agreed.”

Will Rangers sign Abdallah Sima from Brighton during the summer transfer window at Ibrox?

If you ask most Rangers fans, they would tell you that the Gers should do everything they can to try and bring Sima back to Glasgow this summer, but so much will depend on how Brighton value the forward.

When fit, the Senegalese international has been one of Philippe Clement and Michael Beale’s most consistent outfield players and while the likes of Cryiel Dessers and Sam Lammers struggled for form, he hit the ground running.

But his injury issues in the second half of the campaign would have set alarm bells off in Glasgow as the Light Blues are unlikely to rush to spend millions of pounds on a player who is only available for half of the games every season.

Hopefully, Sima’s preference will play a part in where he ends up this summer. Clement and his recruitment team may be forced to wait to find out whether they’re in with a shot, but their patience could well be rewarded.
