Butcher shares what's needed at Ibrox to ease Rangers 'Concern' under Clement

Terry Butcher says it is imperative Rangers make “good signings” and Philippe Clement instils his philosophy on the team this summer amid his concern over their record against Celtic.

The Gers failed to defeat Celtic in the 2023-24 campaign, losing once under Michael Beale then taking only a point from the following three games under Clement’s stewardship.

It made a significant impact in the Scottish Premiership title race as Rangers finished eight points adrift of their Old Firm rivals in the table.

Speaking to Football Scotland (18 June), Butcher shared his thoughts saying: “You’ve got to beat Celtic at some stage to try and get the upper hand from a confidence point of view and also from a points point of view.

“You’ve got to win these games. One or two have been pretty close, but that doesn’t matter.

“It’s about trying to instill that mentality and belief into the Rangers players that they can beat Celtic. Once they do it and get that first win, then that gives a lot more confidence and blows history away.

“You’re now creating your own history and Rangers have got to get to the stage where they can do that. That needs good signings and Clement getting his beliefs and philosophy out there with the players even more and making sure that they know exactly what they have to do.”

Rangers in need of attacking reinforcement to bridge Celtic gap

As with all teams in a summer transfer window, Rangers will be looking for targets that can help improve their team during their quest for the Scottish Premiership title.

The Gers have already made a number of signings this summer and are set to welcome many more to the Ibrox as the transfer window goes on.

However, a key area for improvement is that of striker. The Glasgow-based outfit lost Kemar Roofe upon the expiry of his contract, while Danilo had an injury-hit campaign and Cyriel Dessers was often the brunt of criticism.

Numerous options have emerged as reported targets, one of which is Albion Rrahmani. It was revealed on 16 June that Rapid Bucharest had received a bid for their star striker, however, it wasn’t equal to what the club believes is his “level and value”.

In addition, Hamza Igmane is another name who has been mentioned as Rangers target with a deal reportedly being agreed for a minimal fee (Daily Record).

The hope is then that Clement can work with his current crop and the new arrivals to really hammer home his philosophy and style of play. If he can do that then Rangers can really challenge their rivals.
