Billionaire confirms interest in Everton takeover in new transfer admission

John Textor has confirmed that he is interested in becoming the new owner of Everton and has already made a new transfer admission.

A source had told Goodison News (9 August) that the Crystal Palace shareholder and billionaire had retained an interest in purchasing the Toffees, but he will have to sell his 45 per cent stake at Selhurst Park first.

Although Textor hasn’t indicated that any deal is close at Goodison Park, he has admitted that having an English club in his network would help attract players playing in South America in the future.

As quoted by The Mirror on Sunday (11 August) he said: “Yes, we are looking at Everton along with everybody else. I would have to rationalise my interest in Palace before I could close anything.

“I am an Anglophile when it comes to football. When I see these legendary teams come along, some in the Premier League, some in the Championship, clubs that I grew up with, they have an appeal.

“They also have an appeal to our business model because if I follow these great teams, then so do athletes around the world.

“We are signing athletes down in Brazil right now because of the dream of playing in Europe. It is important to have one of those great, authentic English clubs at the heart of our constellation of clubs.

“I say constellation, not multiclub because I think every one of our clubs should be a champion. The feeder system doesn’t really work for us.

“But it does work that players from South, Central and North America all want to be here so it is important that we have a good partner in the Premier League as part of our family at Eagle.

“We will definitely keep looking until we find the right fit.”

It has been a poorly kept secret over the last couple of days that Textor remains interested in acquiring a controlling stake at Goodison Park, but now fans have been given confirmation from the man himself.

No deal is going to be imminent, primarily because of his ties with Crystal Palace but also partly because of the Blues’ financial situation where they owe a lot of money to several different people and companies.

However, Textor’s quotes suggest that he wants to buy the Blues for the right reasons. He doesn’t want to strip them of their assets but instead views them as the central cog in an important machine of European clubs.

Hopefully, his interest will progress into a genuine bid sooner rather than later. Everton fans will be long bored of this takeover saga and will now just be hoping that a new owner can take their place at Goodison sooner rather than later.
