'Can't be ruled out': Tottenham could still move for £40m striker who scored more than Solanke - journalist

Tottenham Hotspur now have a new striker firmly on their radar for the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

Losing Harry Kane last summer left a huge hole which is yet to be filled at Tottenham 12 months on from his move to Bayern Munich.

Ange Postecoglou has now made his wish for a striker public during the back end of Tottenham’s pre-season trip to Asia.

“It’s still the area of the park we’re really probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, so obviously that’s a focus for us,” he said.

And this has seen Spurs strongly linked with a move for Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke over recent days.

Tottenham still weighing up their striker options

The biggest issue in Spurs potentially landing Solanke this summer is his monstrous release clause.

Despite having only netted 29 Premier League goals in his career, the Englishman has a whopping £65m release clause that needs to be worked around.

Whether Tottenham would be willing to pay that or not is another matter considering the Lilywhites have not been able to sell on Richarlison so far.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, a move from Spurs for the Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez cannot be ruled out this summer.

‘Santi Gimenez has gone a little bit cold at this stage, but it can’t be ruled out. It’s very much others that they’re working on,” he said.

The Mexican provided Feyenoord with an impressive return last season where he was able to provide 23 goals in the league alone.

Of course, the level of the league has to be taken into account but that is a return of four more than what Solanke provided Bournemouth last season.

Nottingham Forest now showing interest in Santiago Gimenez

Spurs are not alone, however, in showing their interest in Gimenez this summer with another Premier League club now in the race.

Nottingham Forest are believed to hold an interest in Gimenez as the Reds look to add yet another player to their squad this summer.

Gimenez valued around £40m but whether or not Spurs would be willing to take the gamble on a player who has not played in England before will have to be seen.

After all, it has been claimed Postecoglou is wanting a striker for Tottenham with Premier League experience.
