Craig Moore has warned Philippe Clement over being too positive before Rangers take on Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday.
The Old Firm rivals are set to go head-to-head at Hampden Park on 15 December, with the Hoops hoping to keep their hands on the trophy after beating Aberdeen in the final last season.
Clement has been speaking very positively in the media about his team’s current form, having gone unbeaten in the last nine fixtures in all competitions, but that has come with a warning.
Speaking via the Go Radio Football Show [12 December], Moore said: “There has been positivity, there’s no doubt about that, but at the same time, there’s got to be caution.
“These two games [Tottenham and Celtic] are serious football matches. They mean a lot to the supporters, in particular. The League Cup final for Philippe Clement and his staff is a really important one, psychologically, to prove that he’s able to get a result.
“I still think Celtic are the strong side and go in as red-hot favourites but they’re two games to test Clement and his men. That positivity could change very quickly.”
Rangers must be careful ahead of key Celtic fixture
Positive vibes are beginning to build at Ibrox, especially after Clement’s side managed a 1-1 draw against Spurs on Thursday 12 December, though it should have been all three points for the Gers.
The Light Blues dominated proceedings in front of their home crowd, putting ex-Celtic man Ange Postecoglou to shame, but only Hamza Igamane could hit the back of the net.
Despite this, the Gers can take a lot of positives from their recent form and should be able to put up a decent fight against their bitter rivals. It doesn’t come bigger than this.
Clement is still facing pressure from the fans over his potential sacking and another defeat to the Hoops could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back on this occasion.
A victory and, subsequently, the lifting of the League Cup, could help put much more faith in the Belgian but all players must be at the top of their game and ready to put their body on the line.
