Everton midfielder James Garner will be out for the next few weeks with Sean Dyche not expecting him to return before December.
Ahead of the game against Southampton on 2 November, Dyche confirmed that Garner will be out of action for a month with a back injury.
Along with him, Youssef Chermiti, Armando Broja and Tim Iroegbunam will all be out of action.
Dwight McNeil, who was a doubt for the game, having missed training on 31 October is understood to be in contention but has not yet been ruled fit.
Everton receive a semi-positive boost on Dwight McNeil
McNeil’s fitness is crucial for the Toffees, especially with the upcoming Southampton game, due to his pivotal role in the team’s dynamics.
His ability to navigate through opposition defences with his dribbling skills and vision in final third plays have been instrumental for Dyche’s side this season.
His absence would not only weaken Everton’s attacking options but also disrupt the creative flow and fluidity in the midfield.
Given the recent injury updates, with players like Garner out, the burden on McNeil to contribute both creatively and in terms of goal involvement becomes even more significant.
While Everton should theoretically have the upper hand against Southampton, football’s unpredictability means every fully fit player, especially of McNeil’s calibre, could be the difference between a win and a draw or loss.
He has been operating as a number 10 this season and it’s refreshing to see him thrive in that role.
