Dan Bardell believes Djed Spence could be back up to Pedro Porro for Tottenham next season after some positive pre-season performances.
The 23-year-old featured in the second half against Queens Park Rangers, replacing the Spaniard at the interval.
The right-back performed well showing the reasons why Spurs signed him from Middlesbrough, including some top skills and dribbling.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that the Englishman could be utilised as a squad player by Ange Postecoglou next season.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “Djed Spence is guilty of making a big jump too early in his career.
“Realistically he should have gone back to Forest but moved to Spurs and Antonio Conte never wanted him there.
“He’s had a few failed loans so Tottenham are using pre-season to feel him out and see if there is a player there for Postecoglou.
“He might get a second chance at Spurs but maybe if Emerson goes there will be a need for another right back. The door may be slightly open to play back up to Porro potentially.“
Djed Spence could get Tottenham second chance
Spence was a different player in his loan spell with Nottingham Forest which saw them earn promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs.
The former Leeds United loanee looks has returned to North London for preseason at least and has shown some of his best form in the opening preseason two games.
It remains unclear whether or not Postecoglou will look to keep hold of the defender or move him on permanently this summer.
There is good reason as to why he could come in as a backup option for Porro, although they aren’t exactly like for like.
Archie Gray can come in at right back and play more similarly to the Spaniard while Spence will offer a point of difference next season if he stays.
In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou could hand Emerson Royal a new chance after what he did.
