Dan Bardell has warned Everton off signing Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds United.
TEAMtalk reported on 22 July that the Toffees are moving closer to signing the ex-Italy international who is “keen” on a move to Goodison Park.
Leeds are demanding a fee in the region of £25m while Sean Dyche’s side have set their evaluation at £20m but an agreement could soon be reached.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that the fee involved is too high and remains unsure about Gnonto.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “Gnonto is a difficult one to quantify. I’m not sure he’s as good as he might think he is.
“Leeds will be asking for a higher price because they’ve already sold players. I don’t think he’s at the level that Everton needs and he is an inconsistent player.
“I’m unsure he is the player that they need right now, especially for the money involved.“
Everton want Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds United
The Toffees are in need of some new winger options and have already brought Jack Harrison back to the club on loan this summer.
Gnonto could prove to be a positive addition for Dyche after the Italian showed his class when he was last in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old has plenty of room to grow at Goodison Park and could refind his best form after an up-and-down season in the Championship last campaign.
This saw him score eight goals and two across his 39 appearances in the second tier [FotMob], which isn’t a great return.
There is no doubt that £25m would be a large outlay for the former Zurich starlet but a move could also prove to be a shrewd piece of business.
In other Everton news, Andy Dunn says that whoever eventually buys the club from Farhad Moshiri will be getting a ‘bargain’.
