Dan Bardell believes Everton should sign Jesper Lindstrom from Napoli after a £25million fee was mooted.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported in their print edition on 15 July (page 15) that the Toffees have the Denmark international “in their crosshairs”.
The 24-year-old attracted the interest from Liverpool last summer [Fabrizio Romano, 12 July] and is now available for around £25m.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell warned any deal will come with “risks”, but has ultimately urged Everton to sign the wideman as competition for their current wing options.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “They only really have Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil in that position.
“Another attacking option is needed for Everton, especially on the wing. It is a positive to bring someone in like Lindstrom from a high-level club but it obviously has its risks.
“They’ll be looking at a few positions to strengthen in the summer and thinking that out wide is one of them.
“They probably need a few different options there. If the budget allows then he is available for quite a modest fee so I can see why Sean Dyche may look into doing that transfer.“
Everton to move for Jesper Lindstrom
Sean Dyche has already moved to bring in an attacking option in the transfer window with Iliman Ndiaye coming in from Marseille, on top of the loan return of Harrison.
Now the Toffees could turn their attention to signing Lindstrom to provide competition for the likes of Harrison and McNeil next season.
The Napoli star has the versatility to feature on either flank, which could make him a useful member of the squad at Goodison Park for the new campaign.
This would allow Dyche more flexibility and reduce the need to play someone like James Garner on the wing, allowing him to flourish in central midfield.
A move for the 24-year-old will hinge on whether or not Dan Friedkin wants to fork out £25m for a player who isn’t a guaranteed starter.
In the view of many supporters, though, this is a deal the Toffees should look to get over the line.
In other Everton news, a striker will want a six-figure payment from the Toffees if they win the race to sign him this summer.
