Dan Meis has compared watching the 2024 US election results with Everton defending a lead in stoppage time.
America went to polls recently, with Donald Trump and Kamala Harris competing to become the 47th President of the United States of America [The Guardian, 5 November].
The Blues are currently struggling under Sean Dyche, and Meis, the American architect of the new Everton Stadium, shared his nervousness around the results and related it to watching the Toffees.
“Watching the returns feels like seeing Everton with a 1-0 lead in stoppage time,” he wrote on X.
Everton not progressing under Sean Dyche
The Goodison Park faithful are getting used to relegation battles season after season, and the Blues are at risk of being a yo-yo club if things don’t change.
Dyche did well when he came in to avoid relegation in the 2022/23 campaign, but the Englishman hasn’t made much progress since.
While the former Burnley manager has a limited squad to work with in terms of talent and quality, the team is good enough to avoid being at serious risk of dropping down to the Championship.
This season, the Toffees are once again in and around the relegation zone, and losing 1-0 to Southampton on 2 November certainly didn’t help matters.
After a poor start to the campaign, the Blues found some momentum, going five games unbeaten in the Premier League before the loss at St Mary’s.
The Toffees would’ve arguably been in a better place had they not lost their two-goal leads to Bournemouth and Aston Villa earlier in the season.
With West Ham next up on 9 November, it will again be a tough watch for fans as they hope to get the three points against a Hammers side who have also been below par.
In other Everton news, Dyche caused shock in the Everton dressing room with his decision regarding Jarrad Branthwaite.
