Paul Scholes is never shy of voicing his opinion on Manchester United’s struggles and he was far from impressed with one United star during the clash with Chelsea.
With United appointing Ruben Amorim as their next manager, players are very much at the point where they want to be impressing the incoming coaching team.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is doing his level best to get the team ticking and as you’d expect, the Dutchman is looking to impact the forward players.
Of course, United scored five against Leicester in Van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge but against Chelsea, the chances and goals flowed less freely.
Naturally, the biggest chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to the man United would want it to, Marcus Rashford.
However, Rashford blazed his effort onto the crossbar and over when in acres of space. And according to Paul Scholes, Rashford was effectively trying to show off a bit.
Paul Scholes slams Marcus Rashford for his missed chance during Man United v Chelsea
Commenting on the chance for Rashford for Premier League Productions, United legend Scholes was quick to criticise the England forward, admitting it was a far simpler chance than he made it look.
“I expect him to do better. I think he is trying to make the goal look better by going high into the roof of the net. It is quite a simple side-foot volley from seven yards.
“All he has to do is keep it down,” Scholes said.
Rashford has one last chance under Ruben Amorim
With a new managers comes fresh opportunity and that’s what Marcus Rashford will be hoping is the case under Ruben Amorim.
Indeed, Rashford has been backed to do better under Amorim and if he can get his tail up and start scoring goals, United have a top striker on their hands.
However, this sort of chance is one he should be putting away and as Scholes says, there looked to be an element of him making it looks more impactful than needed.
The best strikers in the world simply put the ball in the net in the big moments in anyway they can.
Rashford, then, needs to get back to doing just that if he and United are to compete again.
