Doctor: Clubs may be careful before signing Tottenham player with future surgery possible

Tottenham attacker Bryan Gil may require surgery in the future if his sports hernia issue continues, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that while it is not common and can be dealt with if managed conservatively, it is something that clubs looking to sign him will be keeping in mind.

This comes after Football London reported on 9 July that clubs across the continent have been considering signing over the past few months.

Discussing the state of play with Gil exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “Gil had a pubic bone inflammation that kept him out for two months last season.

It could be what’s called a sports hernia aka osteitis pubis.

It is not uncommon for younger footballers and is typically managed conservatively first but if it continues to be an issue, then surgical intervention is possible so I’d say it’s on the cards and always an option.

Clubs looking to sign him will be careful and do their due medical diligence on that.

Tottenham must consider selling Bryan Gil this summer

Spurs should consider selling Gil this summer if a suitable offer arrives due to his limited impact since joining the club.

Despite his potential, the 23-year-old has struggled to secure a regular starting position, often being loaned out.

With the arrival of Timo Werner on an extended loan until the end of next season, competition for places in the forward line has intensified and the Lilywhites want to bring in a striker too this summer.

Selling the Spain international could help Spurs recoup some of the £21.6million [Sky Sports] they spent on him in 2021 and also free up space in the squad for new signings.

In other Tottenham news, a claim has emerged on Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey undergoing his Spurs medical ahead of a potential transfer.
