Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven is unlikely to be back to 100 per cent fitness until next season, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that he’ll need a proper off-season where the entire focus is on recovery as he has sustained hamstring setbacks in the past as well.
Also, due to Ange Postecoglou’s style of play, the Dutch centre-back’s hamstring continues to be put to the test.
Discussing the state of play with van de Ven exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, shared his verdict.
“He now has a significant history of hamstring injuries and with his pace and Ange’s playing style that demands multiple bursting runs, he’s at risk for hamstring issues,” said Dr Brar.
“He was on a minutes restriction already but the fact that he only had discomfort rather than something overt could be seen as a small positive.
“I wouldn’t expect him to be close to 100 per cent until he has a proper off-season to really address this and then he needs a stretch of games as well so it could be months.“
Micky van de Ven is a big miss for Tottenham
The 23-year-old’s absence from the first team has resulted in Spurs conceding goals for fun in recent weeks.
While Postecoglou has also been adamant about his style of play, having van de Ven would’ve masked a lot of the defensive flaws in the team.
Hopefully, the Dutchman can return to some kind of fitness in the next few weeks and play a role in helping Spurs finish as high up in the table and potentially win the Carabao Cup or the Europa League.
