Eddie Hearn has sent a one-word message to Jordan Pickford after the Everton ace starred in England’s victory against the Netherlands on Wednesday (10 July).

The Toffees shot-stopper continued as Gareth Southgate’s first-choice as the Three Lions advanced to the final of Euro 2024 with a 2-1 win over the Dutch, setting up a clash with Spain.

Pickford was unable to do anything as Xaxi Simons opened the scoring for the Netherlands before Harry Kane fired home a penalty, with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins scoring the all-important winner at the death.

Commenting on Pickford’s Instagram post [11 July], British boxing promoter Hearn simply wrote: “Legend”.

Others, such as The Only Way is Essex star Mark Wright, wrote: “Different class big man,” while Joe Hart dropped clapping emojis.

Everton ace Jordan Pickford delivers on the international stage once again

Despite a lot of criticism at club level over the years, the 30-year-old has never let his country down at the biggest moments, and Wednesday night was no different.

While Pickford only needed to make two saves [FotMob], his confidence in between the sticks would have been greatly appreciated by his back three of Marc Guehi, John Stones and Kyle Walker.

It comes as no surprise to see the Toffees goalkeeper performing on the international stage following his outstanding Premier League campaign at Goodison Park.

Teaming up with James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite, who was a surprise omission from Southgate’s squad, the trio formed one of the best defences in the league last season.

Only Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool conceded fewer goals than the Evertonians, playing a vital role in the club securing safety despite facing two separate points deductions.

Many have suggested that, due to his performances at international tournaments over the years, Pickford could go down as the best England goalkeeper in history.

With the likes of Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton and David Seaman in that list, it is a bold call, but one that many will argue the case for.

In other Everton news, Manchester United have held internal talks over a transfer for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
