Everton forward Neal Maupay reacts with three words as England beat Netherlands

Neal Maupay had a familiar three-word message for England fans as the Everton forward reacted to the Three Lions reaching the final of Euro 2024.

Posting on X straight after full-time (10 July), the Toffees striker referenced the famous Euro 1996 song to say; “it’s coming home” alongside a video of basketball star Lebron James discussing his “favourite saying”.

England progressed to the final with a last-gasp 2-1 win over the Dutch courtesy of Ollie Watkins’ winner, and will now face Spain in the decider after they defeated Maupay’s native France in their semi-finals.

With Blues team-mate Jordan Pickford between the England sticks and the tone of his three-word message posted on X, Maupay has made clear who he’ll be supporting in the final on July 14.

Neal Maupay message shows Everton star’s connection to England

Maupay is certainly no stranger to getting plenty of attention on social media, and is a regular user of the platform X to interact with pundits and fans alike from several of his former clubs.

Having played in England for the majority of his professional career now – signing for Brentford in 2017 aged just 20 – Maupay has built quite the affinity with the country, and the three clubs he’s played for.

He returned to the first of these from the Toffees last season, scoring eight goals in 31 appearances on loan at Brentford, but is back in pre-season training as Sean Dyche’s side prepare for the new campaign [TalkSPORT, 2 July].

The Frenchman will also be happy for his former team-mate and could in some ways take credit, given Watkins only switched into a centre-forward role for the Bees after Maupay signed for Brighton in 2019.

It’s fair to say that the duo’s fortunes are on different levels right now though, and that’s something Maupay will hope to change with a strong pre-season regime at Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, Everton want to sign Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana ahead of West Ham United.
