Euro club director shares update on transfer pursuit of Rangers attacker

FC Twente director Arnold Bruggink has admitted that a deal for Rangers ace Sam Lammers is “not there yet”.

The forward spent the second half of last season on loan in the Eredivisie with Utrecht after struggling following his move to the Gers last summer.

Speaking to Tubanita (24 July) after one of Twente’s pre-season games, Burggink confirmed they want to bring the 27-year-old back to the Netherlands but that it is not done yet.

“I’m not going to deny that we are working on him (Lammers),” he said.

“But we’re not there yet.”

Sam Lammers needs to leave Rangers this summer

It’s evident that the former Atalanta man has no future with Rangers. The forward was sent out on loan last term due to poor form under first Michael Beale then Philippe Clement, but did impress with Utrecht.

Lammers has been told that he has permission to exit the club this summer but due to his high wage demands of around £24,000 per week (Daily Record), a deal is hard to strike.

His demands are seemingly the key thing holding the striker back from an Ibrox exit this summer despite a plethora of teams lining up for him.

A fee of £2.7million is all that would reportedly be required to acquire the attacker’s services [Daily Record, 19 July] which, for someone who contributed to 14 goals in just 20 games at Utrecht, seems fairly reasonable.

Lammers clearly has no future in Glasgow but, for the time being at least, there is clearly work to be done to find a solution that suits all parties.

But it is very difficult to imagine him still being a Gers player come the end of the transfer window.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement already has a James Tavernier replacement at Ibrox as a transfer update emerges.
