Everton could move to sign Armando Broja if they sell either Neal Maupay or Beto before the window closes, according to The Guardian.

Jacob Steinberg reported via the paper’s website on 24 August that, with the Chelsea striker’s move to Ipswich Town now in jeopardy, the Toffees have been “monitoring” the situation and could step in.

Any move for the Albanian was thought to hinge on an exit for first-choice Goodison forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin [i News, 12 August], but the door could seemingly be opened if either of the other two senior options left.

Everton are currently in talks with Marseille over a deal for Maupay, who is also wanted for a third time at Brentford [Foot Mercato, 24 August].

Beto exit from Everton could spark Stamford Bridge move

The Toffees have been repeatedly linked to Broja, 22, over multiple transfer windows and again throughout this summer.

A £30million loan-to-buy deal at Portman Road [Fabrizio Romano, 20 August] looked like it had probably ended the pursuit but late-window drama has put a move back on the table.

Much of the focus has been on the potential for Calvert-Lewin to leave since he has not signed a new contract, but interest has not materialised into bids [Ian Croll, 27 July].

Atalanta have been looking at Beto [Calcio Mercato, 7 August] but the Toffees aren’t looking to sell, so the active pursuit of Maupay appears by far the most likely exit.

In terms of the options currently in Sean Dyche’s squad the Frenchman is surely the one who most fans would choose to sacrifice, and if it leads to a new goalscorer coming in it could boost a bad start to the season.

Everton are in talks with Marseille over a deal to let Neal Maupay leave.

Broja has only scored three times in the past two seasons amid injury and a fruitless loan at Fulham, while Calvert-Lewin has hardly set the world alight through the opening two games.

But over the course of a season Dyche, and the supporters, would likely feel more confident if they had both to call on, as well as Beto and Youssef Chermiti once the youngster returns from injury.

A Broja deal has looked like an aspiration rather than a genuine concern at Goodison for a while, but the latest developments look set to change that.

In other Everton news, a shock potential Toffees move for a star defender has emerged ahead of the transfer deadline.
