Everton are discussing making a move for Roma striker Tammy Abraham with the transfer window now officially open, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported on 14 June that Roma are considering letting the ex-Chelsea striker leave for £20million this summer.

Everton are among a trio of clubs vying for the Englishman’s transfer with teams such as West Ham, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur all also in the mix.

Why does Everton want Tammy Abraham this summer?

The Toffees have struggled in the attacking department of late since the departure of Richarlison in 2022.

Sean Dyche’s men were the second-lowest scoring team in the Premier League last season with only 20th-placed Sheffield United bagging less.

Not only does this outline their dire need for a striker but also shows how fortunate they have been last term in regard to the quality of play on show from the promoted sides.

Granted, Luton Town only finished six points off from 17th place, however, this season has once again shown the gulf in quality between the Championship and the top flight.

Abraham could be an ideal acquisition for Everton as the former Chelsea man looks to once again re-ignite his career following an injury-riddled season.

Tammy Abraham

Since arriving in Rome back in the 2021/22 season, the 26-year-old has played a total of 119 games and has scored on 37 occasions.

However, the 2023/24 wasn’t his strongest in regard to returns. he only played 12 games and managed to score just one goal.

This outlines how unfortunate the England international has been and showcases why a fresh start is needed.

And, Everton could be an ideal place for that to happen, if he so chooses to make the move back to England.

Although much like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the attacker has had his problems with injuries, when given a solid run in a team, he has often produced.

It was evident last term that the Toffees’ absence of a clinical striker upfront was costing them and is an area that should be priority number one this summer.

If a move for Abraham does come to fruition, he will more than likely lead the line in their bid for survival.
