Everton will do “whatever it takes” to keep Jarrad Branthwaite this summer amid interest from Manchester United, according to Kaveh Solhekol.

The Sky Sports journalist reported on Friday (14 June) that the Blues value the centre-back in excess of £70million this summer and will only let him depart Goodison Park if their asking price is met.

Reports have emerged suggesting the Red Devils have already agreed personal terms with the defender’s representatives [The Times, 13 June] however, no agreement has yet been reached between the two clubs.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Solhekol said: “Well Manchester United want to sign Branthwaite, it is something that has been well trailed over the last few months, but they definitely want to sign him now.

“The only issue I really think is going to be the price because Everton value him at, at least £70million.

“I know Everton have financial problems at the moment, but they will do whatever it takes to hold onto the player and if they do let him go, they will make sure they get every penny of what they think he’s worth.”

Will Everton sell Jarrad Branthwaite to Erik ten Hag and Manchester United in the summer transfer window?

Although the Toffees’ financial trouble has been well documented over the last few seasons, there is a feeling around Goodison Park that the Blues won’t be bullied into selling their best players this summer.

United may well feel that they can haggle and barter to try and knock down Everton’s asking price over the coming days, but if Sean Dyche’s side are prepared to stand firm, this deal may not progress as quickly as some expect.

Branthwaite doesn’t seem like the sort of player who would try and force his way out of the club and while that could potentially change, those around him seem to insist that he has a calm and sensible head on his shoulders.

Ultimately, this deal will only happen if it is on the Toffees’ terms, not United’s or Branthwaite’s. The ball is in the Red Devil’s court now and it is up to them what they decide to do with it between now and the end of the window.
