View: Ange will be unimpressed by 40% Tottenham forward after what happened y'day

Troy Parrott didn’t do his Tottenham chances any favours with his performance for the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday (11 June).

Ange Postecoglou will have a decision to make on Parrott this summer.

The 22-year-old spent the season on loan with Excelsior Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Despite their relegation from the Eredivisie, Parrott can look back on his time with the club with his head held high.

He scored 17 goals and provided five assists while playing for the Dutch side and did everything he could to prevent their eventual relegation, scoring seven goals across their four relegation/promotion play-off matches, including two hattricks.

Once his loan had finished, Parrott was right into the thick of things with Ireland, scoring a stoppage-time winner off the bench for his nation to hand them a 2-1 win over Hungary (4 June).

It is the kind of form which will have made Postecoglou take notice, but if the Australian was paying attention to Parrott’s performance on Tuesday in the 3-0 defeat to Portugal, then the striker hasn’t done himself any favours.

Parrott failed to build on his goal against Hungary in the loss to Portugal.

Played from the start this time, the forward couldn’t get into the match at all before being hooked in the 53rd minute.

As per Sofascore, Parrott failed to have a single shot at goal and managed just 14 touches of the ball.

While his passing accuracy was 91 per cent, none of those passes were key, and he also won just 40 per cent of his ground duels.

He gave possession away twice, and although he did manage to make one tackle, he was also dribbled past three times.

It was a thoroughly underwhelming display, but it is important to consider the opposition.

Ireland were playing a team far superior to them in Portugal and it was always going to be difficult for Parrott to make an impact.

While this shouldn’t write him off completely, the striker will need to show a lot more in pre-season to convince Postecoglou that he is deserving of an opportunity at Tottenham next season.
