Wenham wants Tottenham to use 'Positive' Bayern relationship to sign big-name midfielder

John Wenham has urged Tottenham to try and sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes that the North London side should be targeting a higher-calibre of player.

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg previously reported via X (7 June) that Kimmich is one of six players who will be allowed to leave Bayern this summer.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels Ange Postecoglou’s side should throw their hat in the ring.

“Kimmich is available, isn’t he the exact type of player we should be looking to sign?” Wenham said.

“A player with leadership skills, a player who has been there and done it before.

“He is someone who would bring up the level of the squad significantly.

“We’ve got a good relationship with Bayern Munich, shouldn’t we look to take advantage of that and try and sign a player that would improve the team?”

Kimmich would be perhaps the most high-profile signing Tottenham have made since Gareth Bale.

However, when Bale arrived in North London for the second time he was arguably past his best, whereas Kimmich is still performing at a high level.

This would be a statement signing from Daniel Levy and Spurs, and a signing which would take Postecoglou’s squad to the next level.

If Tottenham want to go from a team competing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League to title contenders, then this is the profile of player they need to be targeting.

Kimmich is a winner who knows what it takes to compete at the very peak of European football, a knowhow which Tottenham currently lack in their squad.

While it might seem far-fetched, with all of the money the club are bringing in and Bayern willing to sell, this could be a chance for Tottenham to flex their muscle in the transfer market.
