Rangers could owe Bristol City as little as £300,000 as compensation if they were to sign Tommy Conway, according to Daily Record.

The newspaper reported via its website [11 June] that, with the 21-year-old set to enter the final 12 months of his contract, the Gers and Celtic are keeping tabs on the striker’s situation.

Talks over an extension for Conway have failed at Ashton Gate Stadium, which would mean that Rangers can sign him on a pre-contract agreement in the New Year and owe as little as £300,000 as a cross-border compensation fee.

Rangers to fight Celtic for Tommy Conway on reduced fee

The young striker has endured a standout season for the Robins this season, netting 10 goals in 39 Championship appearances, with only 27 coming from the start.

He also scored two defining goals against West Ham United in the FA Cup third round as Bristol City moved into the next round, missing out narrowly in a penalty shootout against Nottingham Forest.

Conway has also recently earned his international debut with Scotland, coming on as a substitute during a 2-2 draw with Finland on Friday 7 June.

The 21-year-old has shown his ability on the pitch, and if the Gers are able to secure his signature for just £300,000 as a compensation fee, it could be a no-brainer transfer decision.

Obviously, the downside to waiting is that other suitors might decide to make a move this summer and act on the uncertainty over his Bristol City future. The Robins might be tempted to cash-in now rather than risk losing him for pittance in 12 months.

Philippe Clement’s summer overhaul is already well underway at Rangers.

So, it might be that Rangers look to strike a deal now if he is a player they want to pursue, particularly given Celtic are said to be in the race.

Either way, it looks as though Conway is certainly going to be on Rangers’ radar it’s just a case of when they might make a move.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have secured another new signing already this summer as an ace has posted an exit message online.
